Seagrove Kelp Co. grows and operates in the native environment of the kelp to maximize the kelp’s tremendous nutritional value. The process of growing kelp enhances the water around it, is a counter agent to ocean acidification and is the most sustainable, renewable and environmentally friendly agriculture on the planet.

Kelp mariculture begins with collecting sori from native plants located within 50 kilometers of the grow out site. This is the purest practice of keeping the native plants in their optimized habitat. It also maintains local genetic diversity.

The Seagrove Kelp nursery is in Ketchikan, Alaska and is where the juvenile kelp plants are nurtured before they are set out into the site to grow. Basically, it’s a greenhouse for baby kelp plants.

Once the seedling reaches adolescence on the seed out line, it’s transferred into the water.

After 5-7 months, the plants reach full maturity and are brought into be used in a variety of applications.

Kelp is a net positive for the environment and the carbon footprint is lower than any land based food production.
